African Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Herbal Medicine

In 2017 the College launched the centre with support from the Government of Malawi and the World Bank, to coordinate and promote postgraduate work in Public Health and Herbal Medicines. Pharmacy’s John Mponda is a Deputy Director of the programme and is pursuing a PhD research project in Herbal Medicine. The department is keen to add to its existing work in this area which affects so much Malawian health care and is looking for more research students.

The DAAD collaboration  with Tübingen University  has strengthened our  teaching capacity with  equipment and visiting  teachers.

In 2017 and 2018 the department has been involved in arranging three important conferences in the area of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, supported through ACEPHEM.

A new Masters degree in Herbal Medicines and Phytochemistry is also being proposed.
